I am Rita. As a young girl, my parents enrolled me in a dance academy. When organizing our first tour, I noticed all the girls were chosen to dance but not me. When I asked the choreographer, she soulfully looked at me and said “honey, you dance awfully and we can’t put you up there, but my husband needs help. He is setting up the stage”… that’s when everything started…

Rita Villarroel Gómez starts her audiovisual career before graduating in mass communication (Mention: Audiovisual) in Universidad Catolica Andres Bello (1991). She worked as an intern for the Production Department of the TV program Expedition (1989). Then, in 1991, she starts as a crewmember (assistant to the producer) in the production Company, Cinemakit, producing a series of singles for the TV network, Venevision, mentored by Guillermo Churro Pérez.

In 1994, she decides to work for the art department. She started as an assistant and prop-woman for several Art Directors like Nacho Troconis, Henry Cholet, Ignacio Otero, etc and for the set manager, Guaicaipuro de la Torre.

In 1996, she takes the risk of working in the department of Art Direction of Advertising Filmmaking and works with Directors like Arturo Pereyra, Felix Morantes, Miguel Angel Alonso, Gabriel Brener, Mauro de Vita, Rafael Segovia etc, for clients like Coca Cola, Movilnet, Pepsi, Master Card, and many more. Many were produced by different producing companies like Prime Time, Xtreme, Cinesa, De Linea. She also took the risk of working in the industry of video clip for bands like Zapato3, Claroscuro, Sentimiento Muerto, Pablo Dagnino…

In 1999, she moves and settles in Spain. At the beginning, it was very difficult to join the industry of Commercial Filmmaking. She decided to use that time to make specialized studies in the area of Art Direction, Set Design, Wardrobe and Special Effects and worked as a furniture restorer and Dream Factory. In 2003, she had her first chance in Madrid to work as an assistant of the Art Department. Later, in 2004, she worked as the Art Director for several producing companies like Got Film, The Kitchen Films, Continental, Puente Aéreo, Sopa de Toro, Nephilin, Garage Film, Vervo, etc, for clients like Ford, Pepsi, Ikea, Sitges Festival, Getafe Futbol Club, Toy’s R Us, Ono, Telefónica, Direct Seguros. She worked with Directors like Salmon, Alvaro Olarquiaga, Nico Mendez, Erick Morales, Steve Ayson, Agustin Alberdy, etc

In 2007, she was a member of the art crew for the medium-length film, ¨Diente x Ojo¨, directed by Salmón.

In 2013, she goes back to Venezuela and continues her career as an Art Director for Advertising Filmmaking, for Tres, Factor Rh, Whisky Films, Kapacine, King Vs Kong, and having the opportunity to work with directors like Marcel Rasquín, Joe Torre, Arturo Pereyra, Pepe Sahagun, Hernan Jabes and Peter Odor, opening her way into Central America.

Many of Rita Villarroel’s work have been award-winners in Latin America, Spain and the United States. In 2015, she was awarded Best Art Director by the National Advertising Association (ANDA), for the Cinemax Campaign in Latin America, Yacuzza. The following year (2016) she received the same award –Best Art Director- for the HBO Campaign, Rocket.

Since 2016, she lives in Miami, working for several advertising clients (ESPN, Pizza Hut, Tacobell, Oster, Wom, etc), TV network (Telemundo) and producing music videos of Latin artists.
